PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

TILOMED 30% Oral Solution, is a formulation effective against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria susceptible to Tilmicosin. Tilmicosin is a semi-synthetic macrolide group antibacterial synthesized from Tylosin. It exerts its effect by inhibiting protein synthesis in the bacterial cell. In terms of spectrum of activity it is similar to tylosin but is more effective against Pasteurella sp..
The main susceptible bacteria:Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactica, Corynebacterium pyogenes, Clostridium perfringens, Mycoplasma sp., Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale, Pasteurella hemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus somnus, Fusobacterium necrophorum.
After being given orally in poultry, it is rapidly absorbed and distributed to the blood circulation and from the blood rapidly to the infection sites. While it reaches the highest Tilmicosin concentration in the lung (2,3 μg/ml) and in the air sacs (3,29 μg/ml) 48 hours after treatment, it reaches the highest plasma level of 10 μg/ml in the blood after 84 hours. Tilmicosin is present in the lung and air sacs until 6 hours after administration. The highest drug concentration in the lung is 6,2 times greater than in the serum. It is partially demethylated and hydroxylated or reduced to sulfate. Its concentration is mainly high in the liver and kidneys, and besides this it is distributed in lower proportions to the muscles and fats. It is excreted via the urinary and biliary tract.
