Medecox Oral Solution
Download leafletMEDECOX Oral Powder/Vip is a light white homogeneous powder containing 10 mg Decoquinate in each gr.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
The Decoquinate in MEDECOX Oral Powder/Vip is a substance obtained by the chemical synthesis of 4-hydroxyquinoline, an antiprotozoal substance within the quinolone group. It exerts its effect by inhibiting electron transfer in the mitochondrial cytochrome system of parasites. It affects the sporozoite stage in coccidia. Although the parasites enter the host cell, they cannot continue their subsequent development due to the effect of the drug. By stopping the development of Eimeria sp and Toxoplasma sp. parasites present in the early developmental stages in the small intestine, it prevents the clinical appearance of the disease.
Decoquinate is rapidly absorbed and passes rapidly through the gastrointestinal region, being excreted unchanged in the feces. Almost the entire administered dose is excreted by this route. In cattle, the rate of excretion via the urinary tract is quite low. Decoquinate is excreted in cattle without being extensively metabolized, and the main component is found in edible tissues and feces. No sex-related variation is observed in terms of the route and rate of absorption, distribution and excretion.
When the excretion kinetics in calves and lambs are compared, it has been observed that it is excreted in sheep at the same rate as in cattle or slightly faster.
